Before & After Results - Toronto Dental Office

Mercury Free Dentistry

For the past 25 years our office has been completely mercury-free. When replacing missing tooth structure there are many alternatives to the traditional silver/mercury filling. Our particular favourite type of filling for replacing large areas of missing tooth structure is the lab processed white filling (inlay/onlay).

The lab processed filling has a micro fibre reinforcement and on the second appointment it is then bonded and cemented to the tooth to restore the tooth to its original shape and strength. It has equal wear to enamel and these teeth look beautiful.

Health Canada's Position on Amalgam in Dentistry

While the Government of Canada has not placed a ban on the use of Amalgam fillings in dentistry Health Canada has recommend reducing exposure as much as possible. To read more please visit Health Canada's website for an extensive regarding The Safety of Dental Amalgam.

Exposure to Mercury Due to Inhalation
Based on available science, normal ambient air concentrations of mercury vapour, averaging 1.6 nanograms per cubic meter of air, do not appear to be a cause for concern (1 nanogram = one billionth of a gram). However, inhalation can be a significant route of exposure when mercur y-silver amalgam is used in dental fillings, particularly for individuals that are hypersensitive to mercury. Health Canada advises that mercury fillings should not be placed in the teeth of pregnant women or people with impaired kidneys, and wherever possible, non-mercury fillings should be used for children.
